Nashville TN.- Round 2 of the SEKA/AmpedUp Racing Series got underway with the Bobby Waltrip Memorial Race at the Historic Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, Saturday with picture perfect weather and exciting kart racing.
In Kid Karts, Walker Porter got his name in the Win column following up a 2nd place finish in round 1. Courtney Curran brought her pink cowgirl machine home in a hard fought 2nd place finish. Natalie Strong led some and ran a strong 2nd until mechanical failure forced her to retire. Luke Scott ran a consistent race until brake failure sent him to the pits early.
The Clone Jr. Sportsman class kept everyone on the edge of. their seats as Kevin Lanyi and Ty Porter put on a great race with Kevin making a well timed thought out pass in turns 1 and 2. with 2 laps to go and holding on for the first win of his young career. Ty finished 2nd followed by Harrison Strong and Ryan Chance.
The LO206 class once again was action packed with Mike Curran emerging from the back to take the win on his brand new Extreme Chassis that was assembled and prepared by Kart Kandy just hours before the race. Rob Faulkner drove a great race to secure 2nd place and round #1 winner, Zane Lockwood finished a strong 3rd.
The Shifter class once again had double digit entries with Chad Lee continuing his dominance over the field. Kerry Graham led early and held off a last lap challenge from Cory Emick for 2nd place and Emick finishing 3rd. Sean Schubert won the TAG class to move into the points lead with Scott Schubert finishing 2nd. Wrapping up the road course events was the very competitive Clone Jr. Pro class. This was anybody’s race with all 4 entries battling for the win. Alabama hot shoe, Jolynn Wilkinson jumped out to an early lead followed by Max (McCormack) Porter, Denny Freeston and Elijah Skaggs. After a few laps, Skaggs started making his move. making his way to the point one kart at a time. Wilkinson had. handling issues and pulled off the track. Round 1 winner, Max Porter made his way around the 2013 season finale winner, Denny Freeston for 2nd with Denny 3rd. Skaggs got the win and and moved to 2nd in the points behind Porter.
The oval racers took to the track and David Baker picked up where he left off last year winning Clone Medium and Clone Heavy. Phillip (FLIP) Carter made his asphalt debut and finished. 2nd to Baker in both classes making a last lap attempt at Baker in Cone Medium but coming up just a little short. Round 1 winner, Jeremy Payton finished 3rd in Heavy and Dillard Hatchett Finished 3rd in Medium.
Clone oval Jr. Class had Jo Jo Wilkinson pulling doube duty, racing on the road course and oval. Wilkinson pulled out to an early lead followed by Morgan Harbin, Oliver Cordell and Noah Scott. After a few laps, Scott’s kart really came in and he rallied to take his third series win in a row. Harbin made a last lap pass on Jo Jo to beat her to the line by a nose for 2nd. Jo Jo was 3rd. and Cordell was 4th.
The Outlaw class saw Brent Hughes get the win over Jayme. Parish and Charles Adams.
The Pro Mix class had Kyle Smithson winning over Will Ivy and Marc Deist. Desmond Lewis added another win in the Predator class. Another great day of racing in the books, make plans to join. us for round #3 on Saturday May 10th.
